  • 6 pm in English

Antigonea was presumably a royal foundation named after one of the two rulers of that name belonging to the Antigonid dynasty, which ruled Macedonia between 294–168 BC, most probably after Antigonus Gonatas, or after Antigonus Doson. Antigonea was situated in the area that once formed the kingdom of Paeonia, but until today precisly location of the city is not known. Some information gives us Tabula Peutingeriana, medieval copy of ancient route map. One of several possible candidate for the Antigonea is Negotino in the southern part of the Republic of Macedonia. Since 2009 archaeological excavations are carried out on the Negotino Gradište by Polish-Macedonian team from Univeristy of Gdańsk and Negotino Town Museum.
